Correcting...

It unfortunately seems that I have failed as an educator, seeing as how very few of the "Polished Revisions" I have received from students thus far are truly polished or revised...
Not sure what to do from here as I am tired of correcting things that should be corrected by now, but am also itching to wrap this unit up.

A query: Which is more important: getting a unit done in accordance with the timeline set for it, or having students pass in perfectly polished work?  And, if it is the former, do I amend my grading to account for the ridiculous number of flaws in the pieces so that students aren't penalized as severely?

What a conundrum.

Some Inspired Kicks

My students are obsessed with shoes, the brighter and more bizarre the better.  I cannot say I blame them, there are some fantastic feet strolling through our hallways on a daily basis.  So, this morning, when I was reading my daily blogs and came across the following, I immediately thought of them and had to post it:

Artist David Brownings creates these paper replicas of fly kicks; you can even order a custom pair!
Very interesting.  Perhaps even cool.

My only query: what happens if you wear them in the rain?

I joke...

One Down, Three to Go...

Today at approximately 5:00pm EST, grades closed for the first quarter at the middle school. I have now officially survived 25% of my first year of teaching.

*Sigh of relief**

Unfortunately, more for me than for my students, we are a bit behind in the way of the curriculum map for 8th Grade English/Language Arts. However, I can see the light at the end of the horrid tunnel that is our memoir unit, and anxiously anticipate my first stack of final drafts of student writing to correct on November 16th!

It should be dually noted that I am anxiously anticipating the end of this unit as it feels as though it has dragged on forever.

Up next on the agenda: Persuasive Writing! This one promises to be much more interesting... or at least have more room for creativity and practical applications in the "real world" that I am supposed to be preparing them for...
